Abstract

Aim. To develop a training program for the professional training of a specialist aimed at acquiring additional postgraduate competence in "Manual Medicine" (MM) in Ukraine, which would meet the modern requirements for its training according to the recommendations of the International Federation of Manual/Musculoskeletal Medicine (FIMM) and the European Scientific Society of Manual Medicine (ESSOMM). To reveal the content and structure of the thematic blocks that are mandatory to study; to establish the educational model in Ukraine; to determine the duration of study and the conditions for starting to master the program; to provide the core qualification requirements for a specialist and a specialist in MM upon completion of studies, in compliance with current Ukrainian legislation and regulatory guidelines from the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine.

Materials and methods. The primary materials of the study were the FIMM Basic Curriculum and Safety Guide and the ESSOMM European Basic Curriculum and Principles of Manual Medicine. In addition, materials from open-access resources with educational programs of various countries of the world, which are members of FIMM and already have experience in training MM specialists according to a 300-hour program, with different levels of economic development and health care systems and different models of obtaining MM education, were used. Research methods included: content analysis of both primary and supplementary materials individually, a comparative assessment of diverse educational programs and models based on predefined criteria, and subsequent comparative analysis of advantages and disadvantages when specifying and modeling the implementation of the program in Ukraine. The historical method was used, which took into account the stages of development of MM in Ukraine, alongside the "brainstorming" method.

Results. To address the education and further practical application of manual medicine in Ukraine, a model for additional competence was formed, which provides a 300-hour program in the form of postgraduate modular education in 2 levels: basic (104 hours) and advanced (200 hours). In this model, manual medicine is considered a sub-specialty or competency applicable to any medical specialty within the realm of clinical medicine. It is assumed that specialization within a chosen medical field can be completed within 2 years.

Conclusions. The implementation of this training program will allow to meet the demands of Ukraine's professional medical community for the expediency of using the methods of manual medicine from the point of view of evidence base, the need for comprehensive and long-term training of a specialist in manual/musculoskeletal medicine. This approach highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and treatment modalities for patient care, thus laying the groundwork for the emergence of a new medical specialty in the future.
